FAQ
Why won't the system accept my nickname or password?
You may be trying to use a nickname or password that the system can't understand. Your nickname can contain only alphanumeric characters (no accents, spaces, or punctuation). Your password must contain no more than eight characters.
What is a tag?
A tag is a single word. People usually use tags to describe themselves or their interests (art, postmodernism, lawyer, etc.). You can see the tags that are currently used on the site on the home page. The bigger the tag, the more people there are using the same tag. You can click a tag and see where it shows up. You get to tag just about everything here. It's a way for people with particular interests to find info and meet other people with the same interests. If you want to use a two-word tag, you have to hyphenate the words (political-science). You can modify tags after you've joined if you want to add or change them (except on music and video files you upload).
What is a Profile Headline?
The headline requested in the Join form is basically a headline for your profile. It could be "Starved for French culture in Japan" or "Founder of Google". It is your personal headline. You can modify it after you've joined if you want to.
How do I report spam or something that makes me uncomfortable?
There are Report links with a "shocked face" icon next to them throughout the site. Please report spam (material that is clearly not Francophile, etc.), hate material, obscenity, or violence. Francophilia will review all material that is reported.
How do I cross-post material from my blog into the Francophilia blog?
It's cumbersome, but not difficult. All you have to do is copy the HTML code from your existing blog entry, place the cursor in the "Post Text" box of your Francophilia blog, and paste. A pop-up will appear. Paste again and click Insert. Links, images, formatting, etc. will appear as in the original.
Where can I find instructions for using the site?
For instructions on using the various functions on the site, go to the Help Center in the Forums. If you don't find what you're looking for, e-mail support@francophilia.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Can I submit an article for the Articles section?
Sure! We'll review the content to decide if it is of interest to the community. Please submit material that relates to France or francophone cultures. Please use your profile blog for rants!
What is a blog?
Think of the blog as your personal magazine. But instead of sections, you have categories. So one day you can write about travel, another day food, another day language, politics, literature; whatever you feel like talking about. You add tags to every blog entry so that other members with similar interests can search the tags and read what you have to say. They can comment on your blog entries and share their perspectives and knowledge.
What's the difference between a Coucou and a Message?
A coucou is a virtual wave. You should send a coucou to let a friend know that you stopped by his or her profile and left a Profile Comment (a public message displayed on the Profile page). When you send a coucou, Francophilia sends a note to the member's e-mail and Francophilia inbox that says you sent a coucou. When you send a message, you compose a note and choose to have it sent to the member's e-mail, Francophilia inbox, or both.
